Introduction

Most Cemetery Transcriptions include:
  • Cemetery name
  • Religious denomination of cemetery, if applicable
  • Brief history of the cemetery
  • Map of the cemetery's layout and roadways (often includes a coding system allowing you to determine the rough location of each tombstone)
  • Transcriptions of the inscriptions on each tombstone and monument
  • Alphabetical index of surnames
  • Additional genealogical information on the deceased.

The Ontario Genealogical Society's Cemetery Transcriptions have been gathered together by the Archives to form Fonds F 977. This material has been microfilmed onto microfilm MS 451 in twelve separate batches. Each batch was alphabetically arranged by County or District, and within each, by the township or municipality. By 2000, about half of Ontario's cemeteries had been transcribed and 136 reels of microfilm produced.

Microfilm reel MS 451, Reel 76 contains an Index to the transcriptions. Arranged by County and District, then by Town and Township, the Index lists cemeteries transcribed and the microfilm reference. As the transcription work is still on-going, not all Counties, Districts, Townships, Municipalities or Cemeteries are yet listed.
