The Lands Branch, located at Neepawa, manages all provincial Crown
lands, which are approximately 75% of Manitoba's total land mass. The
Branch is organized functionally into four sections - Crown
Land Operations, Crown Land Registry, Treaty
Land Entitlement, and Administration. A staff of 25 reporting to
the Director of Lands carries out the programs and administrative
functions for the Branch. Operating under authority of The Crown
Lands Act, Lands Branch is responsible for the administration and
disposition of Crown lands in a manner consistent with the principles
of sustainable development. The Branch is also charged with
administering The Wild Rice Act.
Due to the extensive interests and implications to be considered in
all land dispositions and registry, the Branch works very closely with
all other Conservation branches, as well as most other provincial
government departments, municipal governments, First Nations Band
Councils, and various other government and private agencies.
