ON LINE YOUTH "INVESTMENT CONTEST" TO BE LAUNCHED

WINNIPEG, April 18, 2001- The Manitoba Securities Commission and the Investor Learning Centre of Canada will launch a web based "Investment Contest" aimed at Manitoba high school students on April 23.

The web contest will run from April 23 to May 4 and will offer prizes for students from senior 1 to senior 4. The objective behind the contest is to increase investor awareness among Manitoba's young people as they begin to enter the investment marketplace.

Ainsley Cunningham, Education and Information Coordinator for The Manitoba Securities Commission, explains why Manitoba's youth should take part in the contest, "Times are changing and young people need to seriously consider how their saving and investing habits of today will impact their future. The commission wants to raise awareness and provide information that will help youth make wise saving and investment choices," says Cunningham.

Established in 1966, the Investor Learning Centre is Canada's only independent and not-for-profit educational organization solely dedicated to providing non-promotional and easy to understabd investment information to the general public. It is funded through revenues from its low-cost programs and by grants from the Canadian Securities Institute.

The launch of the web based "Investment Contest" is just one of the initiatives undertaken by The Manitoba Securities Commission aimed at informing the public during Investor Education Week, which begins April 23.
