Diesel Facilities

Yukon Energy has 19 generators that are powered by diesel oil: eight in Whitehorse (including one mobile unit), two in Mayo in Mayo, six in Dawson (including one mobile unit) and three in Faro.

Currently, we only use these generators as emergency back up, as we are meeting all our customers' needs using environmentally friendly hydro and wind power instead. With the construction of our new transmission line from Mayo to Dawson City, and our subsequent ability to serve people in Dawson using hydro electricity instead of diesel, we have been able to reduce our annual greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10,000 tonnes.
