VAC MONITORS INSTITUTIONAL CARE

This fall, our Area Counsellors will once again be asking veterans who live in long-term care institutions to rate their satisfaction with the facility that cares for them. If appropriate, family members also may be included in the process.

The questionnaire is part of VAC's scheduled review of community care and contract facilities providing long-term care to veterans. It was developed to help us monitor: safety and security; food quality; access to clinical services; medication practices; access to spiritual guidance; socialization and recreation; activation and ambulation; personal care; sanitation; and, access to specialized services.

In previous years, a majority of clients have expressed overall satisfaction with their care facility and the Department has a strategy in place to follow up on concerns that are raised.
