Get a Grip!

If ice and snow on the ground are making it difficult for you to walk safely and with confidence, you might want to consider wearing ice cleats to help prevent you from falling in slippery conditions. Many people, including joggers, outdoor workers like police, and seniors, find that wearing ice cleats gives them greater peace of mind - and greater balance - when winter hits. This is because ice cleats slip over your regular footwear to give you better traction and help keep you on your feet. Many shoe stores and drug stores carry ice cleats. The people that work there can recommend a product that would be best for you.

Wearing ice cleats in winter can help prevent a fall.P.S. Ice cleats are not a health benefit offered by Veterans Affairs Canada. However, ice cleats turned out to be a big success with seniors who recently learned about them thanks to a falls prevention initiative that our Department helped to support in Nova Scotia. You can learn more about preventing falls by calling 1-866-522-2122 and asking for our free brochure called Step Forward with Confidence.
