Q: How do I enable Java and JavaScript in my browser?

A: To learn how to enable Java and JavaScript in various versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer, click the browser and version you are using:

Netscape 3

  1. From the Options menu, select Network Preferences.

  2. Click the Languages tab.

  3. To enable Java, select the Enable Java check box.

  4. To enable JavaScript, select the Enable JavaScript check box.
     

Netscape 4.0x

  1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.

  2. Click Advanced so that it is highlighted.

  3. To enable Java, select the Enable Java check box.

  4. To enable JavaScript, select the Enable JavaScript check box.

To enable auto-install for plug-ins like the PlaceWare Slide Uploader, select the Enable AutoInstall check box.

Netscape 4.5x, 4.6x, and 4.7x

  1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.

  2. Click Advanced so that it is highlighted.

  3. To enable Java, select the Enable Java check box.

  4. To enable JavaScript, select the Enable JavaScript check box.

  5. Select Enable JavaScript for Mail and News.

To enable auto-install for plug-ins like the PlaceWare Slide Uploader, select SmartUpdate and check the Enable SmartUpdate box if you want.

Internet Explorer 3

  1. From the View menu, select Options.

  2. Click the Security tab.

  3. To enable Java, select Enable Java Programs.

  4. To enable JavaScript, select Run ActiveX Scripts.

Internet Explorer 4

  1. From the View menu, select Internet Options.

  2. Click the Security tab.

  3. Select the zone (such as Local Intranet) shown in the bottom right of your main browser window.

  4. Click the Custom button.

  5. Click Settings.

  6. For Java, select High Safety (or Medium or Low) in the Java - Java permissions settings.

  7. For JavaScript, select Enable in the Scripting - Active Scripting settings.

Internet Explorer 5 and 5.5

  1. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.

  2. Click the Security tab.

  3. Select the zone (such as Local Intranet) shown in the bottom right of your main browser window.

  4. Click the Custom Level button.

  5. For Java, select High Safety (or Medium or Low) in Java - Java permissions settings.

  6. For JavaScript, select Enable in the Scripting - Active Scripting settings.

 

 

Q: How do I enable Flash in my browser?

A: You need to download the latest Flash plug-in from Macromedia.
