National Area of Selection Implementation: Overview(updated August 15, 2006) The Public Service Commission (PSC) is expanding the national area of selection (NAOS) for jobs open to the Canadian public. Canadians from across the country now have broader access to federal government jobs located in the National Capital Region. Since 2001, NAOS has been in place for jobs open to the public at the executive level, as well as senior officer-level positions at the executive equivalent and one and two levels below the executive level. As of April 1, 2006, all other officer-level jobs, open to the public and located in the National Capital Region, are subject to NAOS. On June 30, 2006, the PSC launched pilot projects to implement the use of NAOS for all officer-level jobs that are open to the public in certain federal organizations in the provinces of Alberta and Quebec. In April 2007, following an impact assessment, all other officer-level jobs open to the public and located across Canada will be subject to NAOS. In December 2007, following another impact assessment, all other occupational groups and levels are expected to be subject to NAOS for jobs open to the public across Canada. Related links:
