The Community Unemployed Help Centre

The Community Unemployed Help Centre of Winnipeg is an independent, non-profit organization providing free counselling and advocacy services to unemployed workers. Our special area of interest is unemployment insurance where we provide information, counselling and para-legal services to UI applicants and recipients. We also have a strong commitment to public education, advocacy, social programs and the rights of workers.

This site is intended to:

Employment insurance or Unemployment insurance?

In 1997 the Federal government changed the name of the program from Unemployment Insurance to Employment Insurance. We use the two terms interchangeably, although we prefer the old name which in our view, better reflects the program's purpose; to provide income support during periods of unemployment. Despite the name change, unemployment has not been abolished.

If you have any information or comments on unemployment issues, please let us know. You can e-mail us at cuhc@cuhc.mb.ca, contact us by phone at 204.942-6556, by FAX at 204-947.9557, or write to us at Community Unemployed Help Centre, 501-275 Broadway, Winnipeg, Mb.. R3C 4M6
