The Holocaust Memorial Day Act

The Holocaust Memorial Day Act was passed on May 1, 2000. The Act officially recognizes "Yom Hashoah", on a date determined each year by the Jewish lunar calendar, in honor of the millions of people who perished under Nazi persecution between 1933 and 1945. Those millions include Jewish men, women and children, people with physical or mental disabilities, those targeted for racial, cultural or religious reasons and those targeted for their sexual orientation.

The Manitoba Multiculturalism Act

The Manitoba Multiculturalism Act was passed on June 24, 1992. The Act incorporates the fundamental principles of Manitoba's Policy for a Multicultural Society: pride in our diversity; a determination to achieve equality of opportunity for all in our community; and a belief that the opportunities of the multicultural society can best be realized through partnerships among communities and with government. The Act establishes the Multiculturalism Secretariat and enables it to provide advice and support to the Minister responsible for Multiculturalism and assistance to departments in incorporating the principles of multiculturalism in their programs and services.

The Manitoba Ethnocultural Advisory and Advocacy Council Act

The Manitoba Ethnocultural Advisory and Advocacy Council Act was passed on July 6, 2001. The Act creates a 21 member Council with 16 members selected by ethnocultural organizations and 5 members appointed by the provincial government. The Council will provide information, advice and recommendations to the Minister on behalf of the multicultural community on all ethnocultural matters.
