Manitoba Language Links - EAL Training for Tutors and Teachers
Manitoba Language Links offers new EAL (ESL) volunteers, tutors and instructors the opportunity to participate in Professional Development through a web-based program.   It is intended to connect EAL service providers in regional programs with each other and with EAL specialists throughout the province in a network of mutual support.

The sessions begin with information about Adult Language Training and about the instructors’ role in ALT programs.  It goes on to address Manitoba’s best practices for teaching EAL in Manitoba.  This includes an introduction to the Canadian Language Benchmarks and Collaborative Portfolio Assessment.

Anyone is welcome to visit the site and access the material there.  We recommend that new teachers in ALT-funded programs consult with their coordinators and project officers about joining the course, submitting the assignments and completing a portfolio of their teaching experience.

For further information about the program contact tutor@manitobalanguagelinks.com

Professional Organizations

In Manitoba, many professional development activities are coordinated or supported by the Adult Language Training Branch, which is advised by the Committee on Adult Language training in Manitoba (CALM). CALM is made up of representatives from the major Adult ESL deliverers and recommends professional development activities that will respond to the needs of teachers in their programs.

In addition, many Adult ESL teachers are members of one or the professional organizations for ESL teachers in Manitoba. Professional organizations provide a vital opportunity for those interested in teaching ESL to meet colleagues, explore areas of interest and further develop their professional expertise.
