Mr. Ramsay was born on March 18, 1970 in Saint John, New Brunswick. He moved with his parents and two younger brothers to Yellowknife in 1980. Mr. Ramsay is a product of the local school system having graduated from Ecole St. Joseph School and St. Patrick High School. Mr. Ramsay attended the University of New Brunswick from 1991-1995 where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Mr. Ramsay was elected to Yellowknife City Council in 1997 and again in 2000. From 1998-2002 Mr. Ramsay also served as President of the Western Arctic Progressive Conservative Riding Association. Prior to being elected to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Ramsay had been working as a Tourism Development officer with Resources, Wildlife, and Economic Development. He was also a small business owner. In 1996 the Business Development Bank of Canada awarded Mr. Ramsay the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Mr. Ramsay enjoys being actively involved in the community. He is a charter member and 1st vice-president of the Yellowknife Kiwanis Club, a canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and a participant in the annual Kid's Help Phone Bowl-a-thon.
