The Fire Marshall, Chief Medical Health Officer, and WCB Warn of Carbon Monoxide Hazard

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is an odourless, colourless, and sometimes deadly gas. It is a combustion by-product produced when fuel is burned. It can be emitted by automobiles, gas or oil furnaces, fireplaces, wood stoves, charcoal grills, gas ranges, gas powered refrigerators, gas clothes dryers, water heaters and space heaters. It can be caused by a clogged, blocked, or leaking chimney, disconnected vent, or cracked heat exchanger.

Rabies vaccine supply is expected to be limited around the world until early 2006 due to a shortage of Imovax® Rabies vaccine, the only human rabies vaccine currently approved for use in Canada.

Meningococcal C Public Health Advisory

Due to the meningococcal C outbreak primarily affecting British Columbia Lower Mainland’s gay and bisexual communities, Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. André Corriveau advises that any Northwest Territories resident who feels he/she may be at risk for the disease should be vaccinated.

Various Ground Beef Products Sold in the NWT May Contain E.coli 0157:H7 

Dr. Kami Kandola, acting Chief Medical Health Officer, is warning NWT residents that some ground beef products sold in the NWT with “best before” dates between June 15 and June 24, 2004 may contain E.coli 0157:H7 bacteria and should not be eaten.
