Health Promotion
Health promotion is an integral part of the Department of HSS' preventive public
health activities. It is defined by the
Ottawa Charter
on Health Promotion as the "process of enabling people to increase control
over, and to improve, their health".
Effective Health Promotion requires a commitment to equity, community
participation and intersectoral collaboration. Working together with other
departments and non-government agencies, the Department is also focusing on
opportunities for education and training, and the development of healthy
public policy.
