Services
Interlibrary Loans and
Resource Sharing
The M.M. de Weerdt Law Library participates in a formal
resource sharing agreement with courthouse and law
society libraries across the country. This is to
facilitate the exchange of information and to broaden
the resources available to the library's respective
clientele through reciprocal interlibrary loan arrangements between
the partners. The NWT participation in this national
resource sharing arrangement ensures access to materials
not available in the NWT collection.
Members of the Law Society of the NWT may request
loans for books, articles, and cases via
E-mail
or by calling the library at 867-920-8617. Charges, if
applicable, will be included with the monthly
photocopying reports.
Book Orders
Members of the Law Society can make recommendations to
purchase specific books for the collection. A Law
Society card number is required to submit a request via
E-mail.
Orientations
Upon request, Library staff can familiarize clients with
the layout of the library, the collection and services.
Requests can be made by phone, fax, or
E-mail.
Photocopiers
The library in Yellowknife has two self-serve photocopiers available
for use. One copier is designed to handle book copying,
while the other copier is designed for copying
individual sheets and documents. The library charges 25
cents per page.
Registered users may apply for a 5-digit auditron
account, which will enable their firm to have an
accurate accounting of the photocopying activity.
Otherwise, the M.M. de Weerdt Law Library sells copy cards in varying
denominations.
Monthly photocopying activity reports are sent to each
firm with an auditron account. Invoices are sent
quarterly.
The M.M. de Weerdt Law Library cannot be held responsible for any
violations of copyright done by users at self-service
photocopiers.
Faxing Services
Requests for fax copies of specific documents are
possible within the scope of the Copyright Act. Copying
for research, review, criticism, private study or court,
tribunal or government proceedings can be provided to
registered users.
Photocopy and fax charges apply. Requests for faxes
within Yellowknife will not be accepted. Charges billed
are to cover costs only and are not for profit.
Policies
Members of the judiciary, bar and the Department of
Justice may sign books out. Loans to other libraries may
be filled depending on the nature of the request.
