Colville Lake is located at 67°02’N, 126°07’W, 745 air km northwest of Yellowknife.
Although Father Petitot arrived in 1864, settlement of the community did not occur until 1962, when the Roman Catholic Mission was established. Colville Lake is a very traditional community whose economy is based almost exclusively on hunting, fishing and trapping. Tourism has played a secondary role in summer.
