*Upon the vacancy in the office of a returning officer, the assistant returning officer becomes acting returning officer until a new returning officer is appointed pursuant to subsection 28(3) of the Canada Elections Act. **28(4) Within 60 days after the date on which the Chief Electoral Officer has been notified of a vacancy in the office of a returning officer or accepts the resignation of a returning officer, the Governor in Council shall appoint a new returning officer. |
