Film Corporation Welcomes New Board Members

A lawyer from Yarmouth and a university vice-president from Windsor Junction are the newest board members of the Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation.

Gregory Barro is a full-time practising member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society and a partner with the firm of Pink Star Murphy Barro.

Amanda Whitewood is the vice-president, administration, of Mount Saint Vincent University and is a certified management accountant.

Both joined the current board for a three-year term, this month. The board includes representatives from across the province with diverse backgrounds.

"The corporation and the film industry will benefit from the experience and abilities that Mr. Barro and Ms. Whitewood will bring to the board of directors," said board chair, Bonnie Kirby. "The corporation is pleased that these respected individuals have expressed their commitment to the economic and cultural prosperity of Nova Scotia by agreeing to join the board."

Ann MacKenzie, chief executive officer of the corporation said, "The film industry is an exciting, vibrant industry that contributes to the province's prosperity and we are confident that our new board members will learn a great deal and will enjoy their time on the board."

The corporation is a provincial Crown agency reporting to the minister of Economic Development. The corporation provides a wide range of programs and services to build the capacity and competitiveness of the province's film, television and new media industries. The provincial film industry is the fourth largest in Canada, regularly exceeding $100 million in economic activity annually.
