Nova Scotia's Success
Canada is one of the best countries in the world to live. Our Canadian values—of fairness, sharing, and helping each other—are part of the reason why.
In recent years, Nova Scotia has increasingly contributed to Canada’s success.
- We have posted five consecutive balanced budgets.
- All surpluses—and every penny from our offshore accord—have been applied to our debt. And this is the last year our debt will grow.
- Our international credit rating continues to improve.
- More people are working, and earning more.
These, and other factors, have helped generate a growing confidence in our economy, attracting new investment and creating jobs. As a result, Nova Scotians are relying more and more on our own revenues to fund programs and services.
The graph below demonstrates this point, showing how provincial revenues are growing at a faster rate than federal revenues.

Like all provinces in Canada, Nova Scotia must also rely on revenue from the federal government. An adequate and sustainable level of funding must be provided to continue Nova Scotia’s progress to prosperity, and to continue its ability to contribute to an even stronger and more united Canada.
