High school teacher in Calgary, Guysborough and Antigonish. Woodlot owner, Christmas tree farmer, and blueberry grower.
Political Career
First elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1969, at the age of 25; re-elected in 1970. Returned to Nova Scotia legislature with election in July 1999; re-elected in
August 2003 and in June 2006. Cabinet duties have included Minister of: Health; Education; Housing and Municipal Affairs. He has been Minister responsible for the administration of the Youth Secretariat Act and chair of the Seniors' Secretariat. He is a past president of the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Association.
Community Involvement
Past chairman of the Strait of Canso Industrial Development Authority, volunteer with Antigonish Minor Hockey Association, Nova Scotia Minor Hockey Association, Canadian Association for Community Living and St. Ninian's Roman Catholic Church.
