Personal Property

Lien Check - provides quick and easy access to the Personal Property Registry System, where financial interests in personal property are recorded.

The Personal Property Registry (PPR) is a centralized computer registry that serves the entire province of Nova Scotia. The PPR allows both individuals and organizations to record their financial interest in personal property (cars, boats, appliances, etc.).

The Personal Property Registry System is delivered through Atlantic Canada On-Line (ACOL), a service providing electronic access to information maintained by the four provincial governments in Atlantic Canada.

Access to the NS Personal Property Registry (PPR) is provided electronically by ACOL via three methods:

Local Access Available from public terminals located in the Land Registration Offices in each county. To access the Atlantic Canada On-Line (ACOL) system, registry staff will assign a temporary user ID and password. You will be required to complete a PPR Walk-In Client Access Application. If you intend to register notices in the PPR, you will be required to show two pieces of identification. Your temporary user ID will be assigned on a daily basis and will be revoked upon payment for your PPR transactions. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, money order, debit, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
Remote Access Businesses or individuals can access the PPR remotely from their home or office using a personal computer and modem. This requires an ACOL account with PPR access privileges. For more information on acquiring an ACOL Account please see the ACOL - NS Personal Property Registry web site.
Searching and Filing Service Providers Those unable to locally access a Land Registration Office may engage an independent Searching and Filing Service Provider to access the PPR System on their behalf for an additional fee. For a listing of Searching and Filing Service Providers please see the ACOL - NS Personal Property Registry web site.
