Live: Election Night Results on Elections Canada's Web Site

OTTAWA, Saturday, January 21, 2006 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean‑Pierre Kingsley, announced today that the preliminary results for the general election will be available as soon as the last polling stations close on Monday, January 23, on Elections Canada's Web site at www.elections.ca.

"We wanted to give everyone the means to obtain the election night results that interest them most," explained Mr. Kingsley. "Our Web site allows you to see election night results live, displayed nationally or by electoral district, major centre or province/territory. We also have quick links to each party leader's riding."

Preliminary results on election night will be displayed from 10:00 p.m. (Eastern Time), as soon as the last polling stations close on the West Coast and in Yukon at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific Time). Preliminary results from each polling station will be added as the returning officers send them to Elections Canada in Ottawa. The day after election day, a map of the preliminary results per electoral district will be available.

You can monitor up to four sets of results at any one time. Unofficial voter turnout will be displayed in real time throughout the night.

The major media organizations are also posting results on their Web sites.
