Last Day for Potential Candidates to File Nomination Papers
for By-elections in Repentigny and London North Centre

OTTAWA, Thursday, November 2, 2006 — Elections Canada reminds potential candidates that nomination papers for the Monday, November 27, 2006, by-elections in Repentigny (Quebec) and London North Centre (Ontario) must be submitted to the returning officer before 2:00 p.m. (local time) on Monday, November 6, 2006.

"The deadline for candidates to submit their nomination papers is firm," said Jean-Pierre Kingsley, Chief Electoral Officer of Canada. "There is no extension possible under the Canada Elections Act."

All nomination papers must include the names, addresses and signatures of at least 100 electors residing in the electoral district where the candidate is running. Each of these electors must sign the nomination papers in the presence of a witness.

A candidate has until 5:00 p.m. (local time) on Monday, November 6 to withdraw or make corrections to his or her name, address or occupation. No other changes are permitted by law.

Potential candidates are encouraged to file as early as possible to ensure that their nomination papers are in order by the close of nominations.
