Divisions

Nova Scotia Environment and Labour consists of 12 main divisions:

Alcohol and Gaming Authority
Protects the public interest in gaming, sale of liquor, film distribution
Communications
Provides advice and manages communications with the public
Environmental Monitoring & Compliance
Responsible for the majority of field operations relating to environmental protection
Environmental and Natural Areas Management
Promotes sustainable management and protection of the environment and natural areas
Financial Institutions
Protects the interests of insurance and financial services consumers
Information and Business Services
Provides information and business management for the department
Labour Services
Provides services to licensing and regulating agencies
Labour Standards
Promotes employment standards, and fair processes for wage compensation
Occupational Health and Safety
Promoting safe and healthy workplaces/work practices
Pension Regulation
Protects the interests of private and municipal pension plan members
Policy
Provides policy planning and development for the department
Public Safety
Promotes protection of property, and safe facilities and equipment
Workers' Advisers Program
Provides assistance to injured workers denied benefits under the Workers' Compensation Act
