Nova Scotia Municipal Finance Corporation

The Nova Scotia Municipal Finance Corporation (NSMFC) is a Crown corporation and was created by statute in 1979. The enabling legislation is the Municipal Finance Corporation Act. The main purpose of the NSMFC is to provide low-cost, long-term capital financing for municipalities and municipal enterprises, as well as to regional school boards and district health authorities.

The NSMFC is governed by a Board of Directors, 40 per cent of whom must be appointed by the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities. This legislated requirement for municipal representation on the board ensures that the direction NSMFC takes matches the needs of our municipal clients.
