Power Engineers and Operators Appeal Committee

The Power Engineers and Operators Appeal Committee is one of the newest tribunals in Nova Scotia Environment and Labour, created pursuant to the Crane Operators and Power Engineers Act which came into force on September 1, 2001. It is an independent adjudicative tribunal charged with considering appeals filed under Part II of the Act.

The Inspector-Examiner, Power Engineers and Crane Operators Section of the Public Safety Division is responsible for ensuring compliance with Part II of the Act. Any person aggrieved by a decision of an inspector, including the Inspector-Examiner, may appeal, in writing, within 30 days to the Power Engineers and Operators Appeal Committee. All decisions of the Power Engineers and Operators Appeal Committee are in writing and are supported by reasons. Decisions of the Committee are final.

The Power Engineers and Operators Appeal Committee Office coordinates and provides the administrative support for the Power Engineers and Operators Appeal Committee.

The Power Engineers and Operators Appeal Committee consists of three members: one professional engineer (mechanical), one power engineer and one owner or owner representative. The qualifications required by each Committee member are established in the Power Engineers Regulations
