Amendments to the Public Services Act have been introduced that would designate full departmental status to two offices of government.

Under the amendments, the office of Economic Development would become the Department of Economic Development and the office of Fisheries and Aquaculture would become the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

"Both of these portfolios play important roles in the economy and development of our province," said Finance Minister Michael Baker, who introduced the amendments today, Nov. 23, at the Nova Scotia legislature. "They are significant branches of government that warrant full status as departments."

The changes will take place immediately after the amended legislation is passed.
