New Highway 101 Interchange for Middle Sackville

A new interchange north of Exit 2 on Highway 101 will mean an easier, safer drive for commuters in the Sackville area.

Detailed design work for the project will begin immediately, said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Department of Transportation and Public Works.

"This new interchange is needed to accommodate the increasing traffic in this area of Halifax Regional Municipality," Mr. MacIsaac said. "There is a clear need to give motorists safer and better access to Highway 101, particularly at peak traffic times."

Cost sharing discussions with Halifax Regional Municipality are expected to begin soon.

"Subject to the negotiation of a satisfactory funding arrangement with the municipality, construction on the project could begin as early as 2008," said Mr. MacIsaac.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,000 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
