This report takes three views to Nova Scotia trade – a system of national accounts (SNA) approach, trade flows and an international merchandise trade perspective.

SNA provides a comprehensive view of trade in the context of economic growth. Data for all the components of goods and services imported and exported are available at this level. SNA data is comparable across national and provincial boundaries.

Trade flow data from the provincial input-output tables is the link between the SNA view and the merchandise trade view. Trade flows are split on inter-provincial/international, goods/services, export/import lines.

Merchandise trade data provides a narrower but more detailed view. Data analysis is segmented by province of origin, province of clearance, mode of transportation, commodity group, and industry.

Measures and indicators include terms of trade, revealed comparative advantage, intra-industry trade, trade openness, market share, trade diversity, compond average growth rate and annual rates.
