Information and Business Services

The Information and Business Services Division is responsible for providing a focus within the department for the development, use, and access to our information holdings, including operational records and published material; providing consistency in the department's business practices; and developing and implementing the department's Occupational Health and Safety program.

Information Services

Library and Information Resources

This section maintains a collection of books, periodicals, government documents, industry reports, audio-visual materials and databases pertinent to the business of the Department. Loan and research services are available for departmental staff, as well as the public.

The Website section of the Information and Business Services Division develops and maintains the department's Internet and Intranet web sites.

Information Access and Privacy (IAP)

In keeping with the spirit of openness and accountability, Environment and Labour is committed to providing ease of access to anyone requesting information of the department. The Information Access and Privacy Section of the department provides various ways for individuals to request access to records in the custody and control of the department. The Information Access and Privacy Section also addresses privacy concerns, including the collection of and access to an individual's personal information. The IAP Section administers the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act for the department and its boards, as well as the Routine Disclosure Policy and the Environmental Registry.

Records Management

The Records Management Program of Environment and Labour encompasses the development and delivery of services pertaining to the creation, access, retrieval, use, receipt, maintenance, retention and disposal of the Department's records in all formats, including paper, electronic, cartographic, photographic, etc.

Business Services

This section provides a coordinated departmental approach to services in the areas of space planning and facilities maintenance, inventory management, and purchasing. These services are managed within applicable government policies and promote the cost efficient use of departmental and government resources.
