Telefilm Canada’s Asia Pacific Initiative launches updated Canada-Asia Creative On-line Directory

Banff, Alberta, June 10, 2003—Telefilm Canada’s Western office is pleased to announce the update of the Asia Pacific Initiative’s Canada-Asia Creative On-line Directory. The Directory is an indispensable reference tool designed to strengthen ties between Canadian and Asian audiovisual professionals.

The project leader is Ms. Christine Lim, an Investment Analyst at Telefilm and the Director of the Asia-Pacific Initiative. The Directory was developed in collaboration with Ms. Po-Ping Auyeung, a producer and a casting agent with extensive contacts in Canada and the Asia Pacific region.

The Canada-Asia Creative On-line Directory, available on Telefilm Canada’s Web site (www.telefilm.gc.ca), contains the names of more than 120 Canadian professionals who have experience with Asian productions and business practices, as well as a select number of Asian-based contacts who are keen and able to help Canadian professionals interested in developing their reach into the Asia Pacific market. The publication is updated regularly and functions with a search engine that allows for a quick search by name, profession, language or medium.

The Asia Pacific Initiative
The Asia Pacific Initiative, established in 1997 by Telefilm Canada, is designed to expand business opportunities and international distribution for Canadian audiovisual products in the Pacific Rim.

“Since the inception of the Asia Pacific Initiative, co-production with Asia has grown multi-fold,” said Telefilm’s Regional Director for the Western Region, Earl Hong Tai. “We are very proud of the increased activity between Canada and Asia as a result of this program, which supports one of our primary goals—building capacity for the Canadian production industry. From the Western office of Telefilm, Christine is well positioned to develop the Asian market, taking advantage of our geographic affinity and historical connection to this dynamic marketplace.”
