About Elections Nova Scotia
In an election, many candidates run hoping to be elected. Many represent political parties and others run as independent candidates. In order for the voting process to be fair and impartial, the election must be managed and administered by an office that isn’t associated with any candidate or political party.
In a nutshell, that is the job we do at Elections Nova Scotia; we make sure every election, by-election, and liquor plebiscite is held in a fair and impartial manner (according to the Elections Act and other relevant laws) and all political parties and candidates act within the rules. We are independent of any political affiliation, including the government in power.
