Bachelor of Law, Dalhousie University.
Employment History
Practised law at private firm and acted as Mahone Bay town
solicitor. Past president of the Lunenburg County Barristers
Association; former member of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society
Council. Former director of Marine Atlantic. Appointed Q.C. in
1999.
Political Career
First elected to the Legislative Assembly in March 1998; re-elected July 1999,
August 2003 and June 2006. Cabinet duties have included Minister of Transportation and Public Works,
Aboriginal Affairs and Justice. He has been Minister responsible for: Communications Nova Scotia;
administration of the Human Rights Act ; the Regulations Act and Part II of the Workers Compensation Act. He has been chair of the Treasury and Policy Board.
Community Involvement
Former member on the board of directors of Family and Children Services of Lunenburg County and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal; former vice-chair of the South Shore Residential Tenancies Board and the Lunenburg County Regional Housing Authority; past president of the Lunenburg Academy Foundation; former chair of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
