Welcome

Established in 1992, the National Research Council's Institute for Biodiagnostics (IBD) develops noninvasive medical devices and techniques to increase prospects for prevention, earlier diagnosis, improved treatment and prognosis of diseases.

The Institute for Biodiagnostics is part of the National Research Council Canada (NRC), Canada's premiere research and development organization. NRC is a leader in scientific and technical research, the diffusion of technology, and the dissemination of scientific and technical information. IBD is one of 19 institutes and four technology centres located across Canada.

Employing over 200 people, the Institute for Biodiagnostics generates significant economic benefits. For instance, IBD has established five spin-off companies since its inception, with total sales to date reaching $15 million. From its headquarters in Winnipeg, IBD's research network now reaches worldwide, combining collaboration and expertise with opportunities to establish affordable and accurate diagnoses for diseases that touch us all.

Our website, as it continues to grow, will tell you more about IBD and give you a glimpse of our progress. When you visit our research pages, you will see how we're improving the level and timeliness of diagnosis in human and veterinary medicine, and how we are successfully linking fundamental research and the clinical application of our results. Intrinsic to this process is the transfer of technology to the private sector - stimulating economic activity and creating jobs through technology commercialization.

The future looks very bright!
We invite you to discover all that IBD has to offer.
