Transfers - An Investment in Canadians

Every year the federal government provides substantial funding to provincial and territorial governments, money that helps pay for the vital programs and services on which Canadians depend.

We call this funding transfer payments, or transfers.

In the current fiscal year the federal government will provide significant amounts to the provinces and territories. This fiscal year they will total $46.5 billion.

Explore this document to learn more about transfers - their history, how they're calculated, what's changed about them recently - and learn a little more about the big difference they make in the lives of all Canadians.
