INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH CENTRE</span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: 'Arial', sans-serif">The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic
Canada Opportunities Agency, today announced the reappointment of Mary Coyle, and
the appointment of Dr. Xue Lan, to the Board of Governors of the International
Development Research Centre (IDRC).</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: 'Arial', sans-serif">“I am pleased that Ms. Coyle and Dr. Xue will be serving on the IDRC Board,” said
Minister MacKay. “Both of these individuals are very well qualified to support and
advance the important work of the Centre.”</span></p>
<br>
<p><span style="font-family: 'Arial', sans-serif">The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is a public corporation created
by the Parliament of Canada in 1970 to help developing countries use science and
technology to find practical, long-term solutions to the social, economic, and
environmental problems they face. Support is directed toward developing an indigenous
research capacity to sustain policies and technologies that developing countries need to
build healthier, more equitable, and more prosperous societies.</span></p>
<br>
<p><span style="font-family: 'Arial', sans-serif">A Crown corporation, IDRC works collaboratively with many federal government
departments, especially Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and the
Canadian International Development Agency. Guided by a 21-member international
Board of Governors, IDRC reports to Parliament through the Minister of Foreign Affairs.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: 'Arial', sans-serif"><span style="color: #000000"><span style="font-weight: bold">Ms. Mary Coyle</span> is University Vice President and Director of the Coady International
Institute at Nova Scotia’s St. Francis Xavier University. She has 20 years of
professional experience in management, strategic planning and economic development
in aboriginal communities, and has worked extensively in Africa and Asia. Ms. Coyle
also holds various volunteer positions.</span></span></p>

<p style="margin-top: 0.0691667in"><span style="font-family: 'Arial', sans-serif"><span style="color: #000000"><span style="font-weight: bold">Dr. Xue Lan</span> is professor and Executive Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy
and Management, at Tsinghua University, Beijing, People’s Republic of China. His
teaching and research interests include public policy analysis and management, and
science and technology policy. He is a recipient of the 2001 National Distinguished
Young Scientist Award in China.</span></span><span style="color: #000000"><span style="font-size: 10pt"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif"></span></span></span></p>
