- Payments to Head Tax Payers
On August 29, 2006, the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, announced that Chinese Head Tax payers living as of February 2006 who paid a Head Tax to enter Canada can now apply for ex-gratia symbolic payments of $20,000.

- Chinese Head Tax and Historical Redress Initiative
On June 22nd, 2006, on behalf of the Government of Canada the Prime Minister apologized in the House of Commons for the imposition of the Head Tax on over 82,000 Chinese immigrants.
The Prime Minister stated that the Government of Canada will make symbolic ex-gratia payments to those who were required to pay the Head Tax and who are still alive today, and to the surviving spouses of deceased Head Tax payers. The Government will also be establishing a community historical recognition program to provide grant and contribution funding for community projects linked to wartime measures and immigration restrictions and a national historical recognition program to fund federal initiatives, developed in partnership with other stakeholders.

Annual Report on the Operation of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act 2002 - 2003
The Canadian Multiculturalism Act commits federal institutions to carry out their activities in a manner that is sensitive and responsive to the multicultural reality of Canada. Section 8 of the Act requires the preparation and tabling in Parliament of an annual report on the operation of the Act.
This Annual Report summarizes federal government policies and practices which respond to the provisions of the Canadian
Multiculturalism Act for fiscal year 2002-2003.
