Canadian Symbols at Parliament

Symbols at Parliament logo

Introduction

The Parliament Buildings and the capital city of Ottawa are in themselves national symbols representing the concepts of government, decision-making, law-making and democracy. Within the walls of Parliament are more symbols that reflect the building of the country from its Aboriginal beginnings to European colonialism and Confederation. The woodcarvings, stone sculptures, bronze, ironwork and architecture of Parliament showcase important historic symbols that tell the story of Canada's people and the development of the nation, using important symbols of Canadian heritage, flora and fauna.
