Criteria Air Contaminants Emission Summaries

The emissions of various air pollutants that affect our health and contribute to air pollution problems such as Smog are tracked by Environment Canada.

These emissions originate from a number of sources located across the country which include industrial production, fuel combustion, transportation vehicles, incineration, paved and unpaved roads, forest fires, etc.

Emission summaries and maps for selected air pollutants such as Total Particulate Matter (TPM), Particulate Matter less than or equal to 10 Microns (PM₁₀), Particulate Matter less than or equal to 2.5 Microns (PM_2.5), Sulphur Oxides (SO_x), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Ammonia (NH₃) can be viewed using the different menus. These pollutants are also referred to as Criteria Air Contaminants (CAC).
