Welcome to Transport Canada's Intelligent Transportation Systems Website. Minister David Collenette unveiled Canada's comprehensive ITS strategy at the 6th World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems, held in Toronto in November 1999. Canada's ITS Vision is to create an environment that will stimulate the collaborative development and deployment of ITS across urban and rural Canada to improve safety and maximize the use and efficiency of the existing multimodal transportation system; and to make the Canadian ITS industry a leader in ITS technologies by positioning it to meet future Canadian needs and to compete in the growing global marketplace. This initiative continues today under the Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program (SHIP).
