Welcome to the Literacy Success website.
Updated August 26 2006
The Nova Scotia Department of Education
Literacy Success initiative was established in the spring
of 2000. Active Young Readers , Grades Primary - 3 has successfully grown to
provide frameworks for professional development, student
literacy resources, and teacher professional resources that
serve as useful starting points as teachers from grades Primary to ten engage in professional
development and curriculum implementation opportunities regionally and at individual
school sites.
Beginning with a focus on
grades primary - three in its first year, followed by grades four - six
in year two, and moving into the junior high school as Active
Readers, grades 7 to 9 over successive years; we are pleased to
continue the Literacy Success initiative at the senior high school level with
Literacy Success 10 .
The key components of the initiative include time,
student and teacher resources, professional development and specific
and explicit assistance to those students who require a higher level
of support in becoming successful, fluent readers.
Resources and information about
Literacy Success' companion initiative,Writers in Action, are
also available on this website. |
