2003-04 Annual Report

ICARTT (International Consortium for Atmospheric Research on Transport and Transformation) 2004 is the collaboration of several institutions and agencies from the United States, Europe and Canada with the aim at developing a better understanding of the factors that shape air quality in their respective countries and the remote regions of the North Atlantic.

The scientific objectives and planned activities of the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) for ICARTT 2004 will be on the interactions among trace gases, aerosols and clouds, as well as the transport of pollution into eastern Canada. These studies will be done in collaboration with Canadian universities and the National Research Council of Canada.

They can be accessed via the Air Quality Services site.

• Landmark New Report: Threats to Water Availability in Canada
  Written by experts from academe, industry, and various levels of government, this national science assessment covers such threats to water availability as droughts, floods, climate variability and change, and land-use practices and changes, and others. Chapters detail current status, trends, and knowledge and program needs. This report was produced by leading Environment Canada scientists at MSC and NWRI, and is a companion report to 2001's Threats to Sources of Drinking Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Health in Canada.

• Changes to Environment Canada's UV Index program. The UV index is now included in the forecast, rounded off to the nearest whole number (no decimals), whenever it is forecast to be of 3 or more, regardless of the season. The categories of the UV index have also changed to follow international recommendations. More details on this page.
