Habitat and Stewardship

The part of the ecosystem where a wildlife species lives is known as its habitat. A habitat is not just a geographical place; it includes the food, shelter, and climate without which a species would not survive.

Habitat conservation refers to the application of a mix of policy and programs for protected areas, sensitive habitats conservation, communications, and environmental impact assessment.

Stewardship refers to the wide range of voluntary actions that Canadians take to care for the environment. Activities range from monitoring and conserving wildlife species and their habitat, to protecting and improving the quality of soil, water, air, and other natural resources.
