Government of Canada Supports Pottersfield Press

EAST LAWRENCETOWN, April 11, 2005 -- New federal support for Pottersfield Press was announced today by the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, and Member of Parliament (Kings--Hants) Scott Brison, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla. This new funding of $43,268 will help the publisher increase its promotional activities, continue its search for new business opportunities, and ensure its financial viability.

"I congratulate this publisher for contributing to the development of Nova Scotia's publishing industry," said Minister Brison. "Its efforts help provide readers here and abroad with access to a wider selection of books by Canadian writers."

"For more than 25 years, the Government of Canada has supported this country's publishing industry so that all Canadians, regardless of age or location, can see themselves reflected when they open a book," added Minister Frulla. "We can all be proud of this unfailing commitment to those who keep our literature alive and ensure that it is known throughout the country and around the world."

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through two components of its Book Publishing Industry Development Program: Aid to Publishers and the Supply Chain Initiative. The Program seeks to enhance the capacity of the Canadian-owned and -controlled sector of the industry to publish and market books authored by Canadians here and abroad.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
