The CDS, as the approving authority, is the last level of higher authority to review the board’s report and recommendations. Upon completion of his review the CDS will inform the Minister of National Defence about the findings and recommendations made by the BOI and the action plan that has been devised to implement the accepted recommendations. Thereafter, the family of Lt(N) Saunders will be informed of the report's contents, and briefings held with the operational submarine community, followed by the public release of the BOI report subject to the statutory limitations on the release of information prescribed by the Privacy Act and the Access to Information Act.
