Baseline established for the numbers and
types of bacteria associated with Canadian grain exports established ,
and for the effect of storage conditions on their survival and
propagation. (Work to be done by CGC to pursue joint CGC/AAFC Strategic
Outcomes) |
Baseline of the numbers and
types of bacteria associated with Canadian grain exports was established
using the heterotrophic plate count method and rapid microbial
identification of select Canadian grain vessel shipments. As
well, the effect of storage conditions on bacterial survival and
propagation has been established .

The current lack of data regarding the
occurrence, levels and geographical distribution of ochratoxin
addressed. (Work to be done by CGC to pursue joint CGC/AAFC Strategic
Outcomes) |
Addressed the previous lack of data regarding the
occurrence, levels and geographical distribution of ochratoxin by
testing for the presence of ochratoxin A in carlot shipments of
Western Canadian wheat.

Available methods for detection of GMO's
better understood, in order to select the method best suited to
Canada's grain handling system for validation and future use. (Work to
be done by CGC to pursue joint CGC/AAFC Strategic Outcomes) |
Better understanding of all available methods for
detection of GMO's has been developed through a review and compilation
of literature on the topic and through visits and material received from
European laboratories.
