Ottawa, August 11, 2006 Minister of Finance Appoints New Director of European Bank for Reconstruction and DevelopmentThe Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today nominated André Juneau for the position of Director representing Canada and Morocco at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). "Given his extensive and diverse experience within the Government of Canada, Mr. Juneau will serve the country and the EBRD well in his new role," said Minister Flaherty. "Canada fully supports the Bank’s efforts to encourage more open market-oriented economies in Central and Eastern European countries." Mr. Juneau has more than 30 years of experience with the federal
government, most recently as the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Canada.
After beginning his career with the Department of Finance, Mr. Juneau held
senior positions with the Privy Council Office, Employment and Immigration
Canada and Health Canada. Mr. Juneau replaces The EBRD was established in 1991 to support Central and Eastern European countries in transition toward a market-based economy. Today it is the largest single investor in the region, providing financing for banks, industries and new ventures, and promoting policies to bolster the business environment in countries committed to democratic principles. ___________________________________
