Canadians are advised against all travel to Lebanon due to the events of 12 July 2006 in southern Lebanon and the resulting escalation of tensions in the region, including the closure of Beirut International Airport and the sea ports.
Canadians currently in Lebanon should continue to remain indoors and minimize movement until further notice.
The Government of Canada is working to develop departure options to assist Canadian citizens who wish to leave Lebanon.
Canadians in the country who have not already registered with the Embassy should do so immediately. Registration can be done on-line, by calling the Embassy of Canada in Beirut or the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade's Emergency Operations Centre in Ottawa.
Canadians should ensure that travel documents are valid and up to date, and kept in a readily accessible location. They should also continue to monitor local news broadcasts, avoid commercial and public areas, and follow the advice of local authorities and security personnel.
