Canada's New Government Supports Galerie d'art Jean-Claude Bergeron

OTTAWA, July 26, 2006 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament (Ottawa-Orléans), today announced federal government support for Galerie d'art Jean-Claude-Bergeron. This funding will enable the gallery to increase its presence in international markets.

"By supporting Galerie d'art Jean-Claude Bergeron, the Government is helping to raise the profile of our culture internationally," said Minister Oda. "I am proud that we are highlighting the talent of our artists and promoting exports of our cultural products."

"We have a duty to support our cultural institutions," said Mr. Galipeau. "I am proud that our government is supporting the gallery, which provides a showcase for artists from the National Capital Region and throughout Canada."

Located in downtown Ottawa, Galerie d'art Jean-Claude-Bergeron specializes in artworks on paper, especially original prints. Founded in 1992, the gallery presents the creations of close to 100 Canadian and foreign artists.

The Department of Canadian Heritage is providing $7,000 in funding through the Trade Routes program. This program aims to help small and medium-sized enterprises working in the field of arts and culture become export-ready and take full advantage of global business opportunities.
