Miller Announces Repairs to Southampton Harbour Facility Wall

SOUTHAMPTON – Larry Miller, Member of Parliament for Bruce--Grey--Owen Sound, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, that the federal government will repair the wall structure at the harbour facility in Southampton, Ontario.

"Canada’s new government is committed to providing a network of safe and efficient harbours across the country," said Mr. Milller. "This project will allow continued safe access for fishermen and other users between the Saugeen River and Lake Huron."

The Southampton facility includes of 70 hectares of property consisting of two river entrance structures and marginal wharves that are located at the mouth of the Saugeen River. Repairs will include the installation of a 60-metre steel sheet pile wall to encapsulate a section of one of the existing marginal wharf structures. This repair work will be a continuation of the 40-metre steel sheet pile wall structure that was installed this past winter.

Plans and specifications for the project are being finalized by Public Works and Government Services Canada and a tender call will follow shortly. It is anticipated that on-site work will begin in the fall.

This project is being undertaken by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Program. The project will be implemented utilizing the contracting services of Public Works and Government Services Canada.
